Social Media Policy for My Integrative Healing Practice

This policy describes how I hold boundaries around online presence and communication as a somatic psychotherapist (LPC‑Associate under supervision of Dr Bryan Duncan, PhD, LPC-S, NCC), Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), sound therapy practitioner, Brainspotting Practitioner (BSPP), Reiki Practitioner, and Acudetox Specialist (ADS). My intention is to create clarity, safety, and consistency across all the ways we might encounter one another online.

My approach is guided by the ethical standards of the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Hakomi Institute (HI), and the International Brainspotting Association (IBA) for my Licensed Professional Counselor Associate role, Texas Board of Nursing (BON) for my RN License, The Texas Medical Board (TMB), for my ADS designation, Yoga Alliance (YA), for my RYT-200 status, and the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) for my Reiki level II standing.

These standards emphasize confidentiality, clear boundaries, avoidance of dual relationships, and maintaining professional roles.

1. Following, Friending, and Direct Messaging

To protect your privacy and maintain clear therapeutic and professional boundaries:

  • I do not accept friend requests, follow requests, or DMs from current or former psychotherapy clients.

  • For yoga, sound therapy, or other wellness offerings, I may have public pages you can follow, but I will not engage in private messaging about clinical concerns.

  • I will not initiate contact with you on social media.

This aligns with BHEC and ACA guidelines on avoiding dual relationships and maintaining therapeutic boundaries, and with BON standards regarding professional conduct and confidentiality.

2. Public Interactions (Likes, Comments, Tags)

To protect your confidentiality:

  • I will not “like,” comment on, or respond to your posts.

  • Please do not tag me in posts related to your treatment or wellness services.

  • If you choose to comment on my public content, I will not respond in a way that acknowledges any professional relationship.

This protects your privacy and aligns with Texas BON, BHEC, and ACA confidentiality standards.

3. Reviews and Testimonials

I cannot request or respond to online reviews from psychotherapy clients. This is required by BHEC and ACA ethics to avoid undue influence and dual relationships.

If you choose to leave a review for non‑clinical services (yoga, sound therapy, Reiki, etc.), please know:

  • I will not respond in a way that acknowledges you as a client.

  • I cannot offer any incentive or compensation for reviews.

4. Searching for Client Information

I do not search for clients online, including social media profiles, unless:

  • There is a safety concern,

  • or you have explicitly asked me to review something as part of treatment.

This follows ACA and BHEC guidelines on respecting client autonomy and privacy.

5. My Online Presence

I maintain professional websites and social media accounts for:

  • Psychotherapy

  • Yoga and Somatic Practices

  • Sound Therapy

  • Reiki

  • Brainspotting

  • Acudetox

  • General Education

These accounts may include educational content, nervous‑system‑informed practices, and community offerings. None of this replaces therapy or medical care.

6. Distinguishing Clinical and Non‑Clinical Roles

Because I hold multiple roles, I want to be clear:

  • Psychotherapy, Acudetox, and nursing services are clinical and regulated.

  • Yoga, sound therapy, Reiki, and other wellness services are not psychotherapy or medical care.

  • I do not provide clinical advice through social media.

  • If you engage with my wellness content online, it does not create or imply a therapeutic relationship.

This distinction is required by BHEC, BON, TMB, and Yoga Alliance.

7. Crisis or Emergency Contact

Social media is not an appropriate or reliable way to reach me.

If you are in crisis, please use:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

  • 911 for immediate danger

  • Your local emergency room

8. Boundaries in Small or Overlapping Communities

Because somatic, yoga, and wellness communities can be small:

  • You may see me online in non‑clinical spaces.

  • I will not acknowledge our therapeutic relationship in those spaces.

  • You are never expected to engage with my content.

  • I will oftentimes send you links to my online content to reinforce psychoeducation and/or practices that we may do in session. I also reference other reputable practitioners...practices and information that I have engaged in and have found helpful. A big part of being trauma-informed means that YOU have choice. If I ever send you something that is not resonant with you, just let me know. Chances are I have other sources and we can always explore what it is about the content and/or presenter that is dissonant. It is all grist for the mill and triggers can be explored and healed through this open and honest feedback. Plus, what works for one person, may not work for another.

9. Updates to This Policy

As technology and ethical standards evolve, I may update this policy. I will notify clients of significant changes.
